This is a full-time role for a Marine Surveyor located in New Orleans, LA.  The Marine Surveyor will be responsible for conducting  inspections and surveys of marine vessels, verifying compliance with regulations, evaluating damage, assessing marine industry risks, and providing recommendations for safety improvements.  The Marine Surveyor will also work closely with other professional in the marine industry and Bureau Veritas teams.

Main responsibilities:

  • Expertise in Inspection, Marine Survey, Navel Architecture, and Vessel Operations
  • Experience and knowledge of the Marine Industry and relevant regulations and standards such as SOLAS & MARPOL
  • Carry out surveys and issue reports in compliance with specific procedures.
  • Ensure that the work performed is in accordance with the rules, regulations, instructions and quality requirements of the organization.
  • Assess the conditions necessary for carrying out surveys to the expected quality level, against own abilities, and the conditions on board.
  • Ensure superior quality of services.
  • Exhibit customer oriented focus through promoting BV’s services and acting as a technical specialist and resource.

 

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Navel Architecture, Marine Engineering, Marine Transportation, or a related field is preferred
  • Experience in technical reporting, writing, and documentation
  • An analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Thorough understanding of the shipping market and marine environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% of the time
  • Physical ability to perform normal functions of the job.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Classification society experience strongly preferred
