Bureau Veritas is looking for an Operations Supervisor to join our team in the petroleum inspection sector in Quebec.
Summary:
- Lead, manage, develop and expand operations
- Maximize human, equipment and financial resources
- Suggest new processes & procedures that will increase BV's market share, profile and profitability
- Ensure the production of high-quality defensible data, safely and on time
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop staff. This includes:
- recruitment of new supervisors;
- setting objectives;
- evaluating performance & expectations;
- coaching and mentoring;
- working jointly with direct reports in the development of their career path;
- ensuring that adequate training is provided.
- Maintain a positive work environment for employees;
- Provide technical expertise to direct reports that are derived from:
- educational background;
- current information in trade and technical journals;
- attendance at symposiums/conferences ;
- networking with industry experts.
- Provide solutions (technical, financial & human), which will make the Inspection deportment & the company more effective and competitive;
- Develop and nurture ongoing relationship with oil colleagues & peers internally and externally;
- With the laboratory Manager, help develop strategic business plans that increase BV's profile in the region & ensures continued growth;
- Act as a positive change agent in supporting BV's new initiatives (operational and cultural);
- Provide a safe, clean and organized environment for staff and customers;
- Develop, submit and review operating budget with Laboratory Manager in accordance with deadlines provided;
- Regularly review operating & capitol budget and communicate any deficiencies I errors;
- Track & justify expenditures. Create ways to optimize financial resources;
- Attend client/vendor meetings as requested I required;
- Develop a strong supportive relationship with the Laboratory Manager. Submit regular reports and suggestions for improvement on the Inspection's strategic and operational issues/concerns;
- Provides positive and/or negative feedback to staff as needed. Discipline and/or recognize field staff on performance;
- Reports any irregularities to management and generates reports of non-conformance as required;
- Communicates & ensures department adheres to QA regulations & ISO Certifications and ensures a high level of accuracy in sample prep and analysis;
- Read, understand and adhere to the company Business Management System, including Quality, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures;
- Supports and participates in BV's Business Management System (BMS). Attend company meetings as required;
- Represents BV by appearance and conduct;
- As directed, maintains an "on call" status 24 hours a day;
- Strong knowledge of Inspection legislative regulations;
- Fill in for supervisor when needed;
- All other responsibilities as assigned by the Director;
- All other responsibilities as assigned by Manager/Director.
Skills and Knowledge:
- BSc. In Chemistry/technical diploma or equivalent;
- 6 to 8 years of experience in Inspection environment of which 4 are at a leadership level;
- Up to date knowledge of process and automation & legislative regulations;
- Dynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook, with a "can-do" attitude to be able to work & motivate others in a fast-paced operation environment;
- Strong time management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills;
- Strong sense of urgency & the ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment;
- Ability to work with and motivate employees with different personalities;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Valid driver's license required.
