SUMMARY: The Food Safety Auditor will conduct GFSI certification audits, FAMI-QS Certification audits, and unaccredited food safety and quality audits within the food manufacturing, animal feed manufacturing, food packaging manufacturing, and food distribution sectors.  The focus will be for these audits to be done to the applicable GFSI Standards (SQF, BRCGS, and FSSC 22000); however, other audits to different other certification standards (ISO 22000, FAMI-QS, etc.) or unaccredited audit programs may present themselves. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Provide exemplary customer service by ensuring clear communication and appropriate soft skills are in place at each audit activity. 

  • Conduct audits according to Certification Program Owner (CPO) and Bureau Veritas Certification North America Standards 

  • Maintain confidentiality about all aspects of work and adhere to all procedures established by clients and BVCNA 

  • Assure rigorous and thorough evaluations are conducted at facilities and detailed audit reports are provided in a timely manner to allow certification decisions to be made 

  • Follow and adhere with all required protocols and procedures 

  • Maintain good time management as it pertains to scheduling and communication with representatives from client sites and BVCNA 

  • Ensure that up to date and accurate scheduling information is provided to BVCNA on a regular basis 

  • Ensure that all qualifications are maintained as required by the CPO(s) and provide BVCNA with any requested documentation that pertains to qualifications in a timely manner 

  • Be professional, respectful, and conscientious in all communications with BVCNA representatives and clients 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:   

  • Valid credentials within at least one of the following GFSI Standards: SQF, BRCGS (Food, Storage & Distribution, or Packaging Materials), and FSSC 22000 

  • Formal HACCP Training 

  • Preventive Controls for Human and/or Animal Food training 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:   

  • University degree in a food safety or applicable discipline 

  • 5 years’ experience within the food industry; with ideally 2 years’ worth of audit experience within a GFSI standard 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.  Must be fluent in English. 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS:  Valid driver’s license required. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Ability to inspect and audit a variety of food and food related manufacturers and producers.  There is no lifting expectations in this job. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and smell.  The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; and reach with hands and arms.
